Read and save every code before clearing. Combine the code with symptoms, mileage and operating conditions before deciding on a repair.
Steady or flashing light
A steady light generally indicates a stored issue that should be checked. A flashing light can signal a more severe combustion problem. Reduce load and stop safely if the vehicle misfires, smokes, loses power or makes unusual noise.
Oil-pressure, overheating or other red warnings require immediate safety action. An OBD2 reader is not a reason to continue driving.
What a code really tells you
A P-code points to the powertrain and identifies a monitored circuit or condition. It does not automatically name the failed part.
For example, a misfire can result from ignition, fuel, air intake, compression or wiring. Testing is required before replacement.
Save the evidence before clearing
Capture the exact code, status, mileage, symptoms and any freeze-frame data.
- Exact code rather than a generic description.
- Present, stored or pending status.
- Engine temperature and load when available.
- Recent repair, refuelling or battery event.
Turn the code into a useful plan
Start with simple visible checks, then use repair information or professional testing. OBDPhone® helps document the issue and communicate clearly; it does not replace measurements or manufacturer procedures.
Frequently asked questions
The essential answers.
Does the code tell me which part to replace?+
No. Several causes can produce the same code.
Can I drive with the light on?+
It depends on the light, symptoms and vehicle manual. A flashing light or major symptoms needs greater caution.
Does OBDPhone® read every warning light?+
The guaranteed scope is generic engine and emissions diagnostics, not every control unit.
