Possible causes beyond the EGR valve

A sticking or contaminated valve is possible, but flow may be restricted elsewhere. Manufacturer service bulletins for specific vehicles document deposits in intake passages, blocked EGR filters or coolers, and revised components.

Other documented cases involve engine-control calibration. These examples are not instructions for every car; they show why the same code can require different repairs according to engine and VIN.

  • Deposits in the valve, passages or intake.
