Do not start the engine to reproduce the symptom or wait for a warning. First record the exact message and what you observed. This table helps you plan the next step; your vehicle handbook remains the source for its instructions.

No visible leak is not a clean bill of health
A dry parking space tells you what is visible in that place at that moment. It is not a leak test. Equally, a suspected drop does not condemn a head gasket, pump or radiator. Ask for the cause to be investigated rather than a component to be replaced on a hunch.
Make observations comparable: record whether the engine was cold or recently running, whether the car was level, the date and the mileage. Photograph the marks and level from a similar angle. Do not open the tank just to improve the picture. If it is opaque or you are unsure which reservoir it is, have it identified.
Keep observations separate from diagnoses in your message. ‘Lower than in the earlier photo’ is useful; ‘failed head gasket’ is already a conclusion. Do not turn an unknown amount or time interval into an invented estimate.
What the two Renault handbooks actually establish
Scenic 4, handbook period 21/09/2022–21/03/2023: Renault specifies a cold check with the engine stopped on level ground, and professional attention for an abnormal or repeated drop. Work on the hot cooling circuit is prohibited.
Captur 2, handbook period 25/06/2019–18/03/2024: overheating with an alert or smoke under the bonnet calls for stopping and contacting the network, observing the handbook’s precautions.

Choosing coolant and deciding when to investigate
Find the specification for the exact vehicle before buying a bottle. The Ford section cited requires compliant coolant and warns against mixing and unspecified leak-sealing products. That North American document is not a universal recipe for European cars.
If the existing product is unknown, ask the garage to identify the appropriate solution. Do not choose by appearance alone. This article gives no universal mixing ratio, top-up volume or replacement interval.
Record any top-up carried out in accordance with the handbook: date, known quantity, product and mileage. It does not prove the cause has gone away. If the level changes after work on the car, contact that workshop with the invoice and ask what needs checking; do not automatically assume the change is normal.
How an OBD2 reader can help your garage
OBDPhone® reads generic engine and emissions fault codes and available engine data. If the vehicle actually supplies a temperature reading, it may add context; it does not measure coolant volume or prove the system is sealed. One reading is not permission to drive.
A scan showing no codes means only that none were obtained within the scope checked. If there is a code, save its wording, status and available freeze-frame data. Do not run an engine suspected of overheating just to collect more readings. Clear codes only after repair.

A short record for a useful garage appointment
You can gather this information without dismantling or testing the circuit. Ask whether the vehicle should remain parked or be transported, and which examination will establish why the level is falling.
- Model, year, fuel type and known engine version.
- Dated level photographs with checking conditions.
- Top-up history, product used and known quantities.
- Latest cooling-system work and any available invoice.
- Exact messages, any smoke and the circumstances observed.
- Previously saved codes and data, including any earlier clearing.

No. That observation does not locate the cause. Have the drop checked and ask for a diagnosis before identifying a failed part.
Can I drive after simply topping up?+
A top-up alone does not answer that. The original level, warnings, subsequent change and vehicle handbook inform the decision with a professional.
Does a clear OBD2 scan rule out a leak?+
No. Reading generic engine codes does not test the cooling circuit for leaks or measure its coolant quantity.
How much loss is normal in a month?+
